ONTARIO CHAMBER RESPONDS TO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT
Ontario businesses continue to face the impact of unpredictable U.S. trade policy.

In response to President Trump’s latest tariff announcement, OCC President and CEO, Daniel Tisch, is calling for action to protect our economy, our businesses, and our workers.
“President Trump has declared today ‘Liberation Day,’ but the only thing being liberated is hard-earned cash from the pockets of American consumers, who will pay these tariffs,” said Tisch.
While Canada has avoided the worst of these new measures, the continued uncertainty is eroding investor confidence, threatening jobs, and discouraging cross-border trade. Businesses deserve stability, not shifting policies that create uncertainty across North America and beyond.
The OCC is calling for three key actions: Swift renegotiation of CUSMA to protect Canadian businesses and workers. A push for trade diversification to reduce our reliance on the U.S. market. Strengthening domestic competitiveness to ensure Ontario remains a global economic leader.
This is a critical moment. We need leadership that unites us in protecting Ontario’s economic future. As the situation evolves, we will continue to advocate on your behalf and keep you informed.
